Rev. Ernest Lewis: Posthumous Recognition

STATE OF KANSAS )
WYANDOTTE COUNTY )) SS REGULAR SESSION, MONDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2007
CITY OF KANSAS CITY, KS )

MAYOR’S AGENDA
ITEM NO. 1 – 070600…PRESENTATION
Synopsis: Robert Dorsey, founder and president of Brotherhood, Inc., and The
Kansas Connection with Ben Wood as president operating in Kansas City, KS, and
Kansas City, MO, to present plaques to Commissioner Nathan Barnes, the late
Commissioner Ernest Lewis, Jr., and Sheriff LeRoy Green.

Mayor Reardon stated tonight I have the privilege of recognizing Robert Dorsey, the
founder and president of Brotherhood, Inc., and The Kansas Connection with Ben Wood,
as president, operating in Kansas City, KS, to make a special presentation before the
Commission this evening. I also want to acknowledge we have Sheriff LeRoy Green
with us this evening.

Robert Dorsey, founder and president of Brotherhood, Inc., stated I’d like to thank all
of you for allowing us to try to make our community a little bit safer here in the state and
Wyandotte County. I want to recognize Sheriff Green, Commissioner Barnes, and the
late Commissioner Lewis. Without these gentlemen, we would not be doing what we do,
especially Commissioner Lewis, because he always told us to continue on with our
endeavors. I’d like to give this plaque to these gentlemen. The plaque says, “Presented
to the late Earnest Lewis, Jr., in grateful appreciation of our community service, from Brotherhood Inc., Robert Dorsey, and Kansas Connection, with Ben Woods.” We did a
program in conjunction with K.U. called Save Our Kids 2000 where Sheriff Green was
instrumental in letting our youngsters take tours at the county jail to actually see that jail
does exist. We had several youngsters that were mouthy and after they toured the jail and
saw a young lady that was 14 or 15 years old and pregnant, she told them her baby will
be taken and she will continue to do time in jail. From that time on and after, we never
had any conversation from those kids because it was a shock for them. We’d like to say
thank you to everyone that has helped us, and we hope we can continue our endeavors
here in Wyandotte County. Commissioner Barnes already received his plaque.

Commissioner Barnes accepted the plaque on behalf of Commissioner Lewis’ family.
