Beverly Giles (Starnes Turner) - Class Of 1961

 

 

 
 

Beverly Ann Turner, 66, of Franklin, Kansas went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10:25 a.m. at Medicalodge South Nursing Home in Pittsburg, Kansas following a long illness.
Beverly was born May 24,  1943 in Croweburg, Kansas the daughter of Bob and Kathryn Jackson Giles. Her parents later divorced. Beverly’s mother later married Leroy Nelson Sr. and they raised Bev. Beverly was a registered nurse working 17 years at the Arma Nursing Home starting as a nurses aide and later becoming the Director of Nursing. She also worked 17 years for Hughes Tool Company in Houston, Texas. Beverly attended Arma Grade School and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1960. She attended Kansas State Teachers College, now PSU, and later attended Ft. Scott Community College becoming a registered nurse. She married Clifford Starnes in 1964 and they had a daughter, Kimberly. They later divorced. She married Percy Turner III on May 10, 1985 in Houston, Texas. Mr. Turner survives at the home. Beverly loved to play bingo, was a member of the New Life Baptist Church at Franklin, and a member of the Eastern Star in Pittsburg and the Arma Eagles Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Percy of the home, a daughter, Kimberly Kelley and her husband Jerome of Houston, Texas, a step-son, Duane Turner and his wife Jennifer of Houston, Texas, step-father, the Rev. Leroy Nelson Sr. and his wife Louise of Ft. Scott, four sisters, Judy Sharpe and her husband James of Idabel, Oklahoma, Marva Nelson and her husband Thomas of Chicago, Illinois, and Edythe Boyd and Sarah Thorns of Las Vegas, Nevada, five brothers, James (Sonny) Giles and his wife Carol of Croweburg, Leroy Nelson Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, Marion Nelson of Chanute, William Nelson and his wife Janet of Pittsburg, and Stephen Giles of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Mark and Trace E Clayton and four other grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Best friends, Alice McDaniel of Pittsburg and Joann Lasane of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathryn Nelson, a sister, Kathryn Lee Nelson, and a step-son, Kendrick Turner. Bev was dedicated to her husband, daughter, grandchildren and family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with Pastor Randy Woods and the Rev. Leroy Nelson Sr. officiating. James Giles will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the Highland Park Cemetery at Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma.
