Ross A. Evans, age 73, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Karen Acres Healthcare Center in Urbandale. He was the son of Ross and Nadine Evans of Kansas City, MO. 

Ross received Bachelorís and Masterís degrees from Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburgh, KS and a Doctorate in Psychology from Oklahoma State University. For all of his adult life, Ross worked as a teacher and researcher at several universities, but mainly at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. After retirement, he moved to Ames, IA. 

Ross was proud of being an Eagle Scout and of being a member of the mile relay team at his college, which won first place honors at both the Drake Relays and the Texas Relays in 1958. Ross loved reading and collecting books on African-American history and literature. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz and musical theatre.

Ross is survived by one son, Langston of Madison, WI; and two daughters, Kristina (Bryan) Evans-Collier of Marlboro, NY, and Kimberly Evans of Luxembourg; and a granddaughter, Haley Collier, also of Marlboro, NY. He leaves a sister, Betty (Robert) Hyde of Clive, IA; a brother, Larry Evans of Des Moines, and two nephews, Matthew Goodwin of Wake Forest, NC, and Malcolm Goodwin of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Kathryn Goodwin.
